โš ๏ธ Accident Guide

In an Accident? Follow These Steps

Go through this list before anyone leaves the scene.

  1. Make sure everyone is safe.

Turn on your hazard lights. Call 911 if anyone is hurt or the vehicles are blocking traffic.

  2. Do not admit fault.

Don't argue or agree on who caused the accident. Let our team handle it.

  3. Photograph everything before the vehicles are moved.

Take as many clear photos as you can: every vehicle involved from all sides, all damage both close up and from a distance, every license plate, and the whole scene (intersection, traffic signs, road conditions, skid marks).

  4. Photograph the other driver's documents.

Get clear, readable photos of their driver's license, insurance ID card, and vehicle registration.

  5. Make sure the documents match the car that hit you.

    • The plate number on the registration and insurance card must match the plate on the other car.
    • The VIN on the registration must match the VIN on the car (visible through the windshield on the driver's side).
    • The insurance ID card must not be expired. Check the effective and expiration dates on the card.
    • The name on the driver's license should match the person driving.
    • Take one photo of the documents held next to the other car's license plate.
    • If anything doesn't match, the insurance card is expired, or the driver refuses to show documents, call 911 and ask for a police report, and call us right away.

Why this matters: drivers have handed over documents that belong to a different vehicle. If the documents don't match the car that hit you, it may not be possible to recover the damages from the responsible driver.

  6. Call XLane before you leave the scene.

    (929) 752-4123. Also get the names and phone numbers of any witnesses, and the police report number if police came.
